Because you're looking at information about MCSE courses, the chances are you're in one of two categories: Maybe you're thinking of a radical change of career to get into the IT field, and you've found a massive need for men and women who are commercially qualified. Or maybe you're an IT professional already - and you need to formalise your skill-set with the Microsoft qualification.

During your research, you'll come across training providers that reduce their costs by not providing the current Microsoft version. Don't use training companies like these as you'll experience challenges at exam time. If your knowledge is of an old version, it is going to be hugely difficult to get qualified. Avoid making a hasty decision when buying a course without a proper consultation. Take time to discover a training company who will spend time helping and advising you on an appropriate training track for your needs.

It's essential to have the most up to date Microsoft (or relevant organisation's) authorised exam preparation and simulation materials. Some students can be thrown off course by practicing questions for their exams that don't come from official sources. It's not uncommon that the question formats and phraseology can be completely unlike un-authorised versions and you need to be ready for this. Always request some practice exams so you can check your knowledge whenever you need to. Mock exams will help to boost your attitude - then you're much more at ease with the real thing.

Many trainers will provide a useful Job Placement Assistance facility, to assist your search for your first position. Because of the growing skills shortage in the United Kingdom even when times are hard, there's no need to make too much of this option though. It's actually not as hard as some people make out to secure a job once you're well trained and qualified.

CV and Interview advice and support may be available (alternatively, check out one of our sites for help). Ensure you polish up your CV today - not after you've qualified! It can happen that you haven't even passed your first exam when you land your first junior support role; but this can't and won't happen if interviewers don't get sight of your CV. If you don't want to travel too far to work, then you'll often find that an independent and specialised local employment service might work much better for you than the trainer's recruitment division, because they're far more likely to know what's available near you.

Many trainees, it seems, invest a great deal of time on their training course (for years sometimes), only to do nothing special when attempting to secure a good job. Market yourself... Make an effort to put yourself out there. Don't expect a job to just fall into your lap.
