Specialist computer programmers are also known as software-engineers, or software developers. The profession has been out there & increasing for as much time as computers themselves have. With no software package, pretty much all 'electronics' would be just inert containers that didn't actually do anything. Virtually every bit of technology that exists has a program within it. Granted, much of this is what we refer to as firmware, or a basic operating system that allows the equipment to perform; video-recorders and DVD or Blu-ray players are examples of these. Software is all around you - its what lets you set up the recording of a programme on your television set, & what's driving the navigation menu on the DVD or Blu-ray you're watching. When you watch a movie on DVD, what's really happening is a piece of a software program has drawn the 1s & 0s from the disc, & de-crypted them at fantastic speed into video-information.

The primary MS certification tracks were upgraded some years ago, as they changed from the earlier MCAD/MCSD (Microsoft Certified Application/Solutions Developer) to the newer 'MCTS' ('Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist') and MCPD ('Microsoft Certified Professional Developer') examinations. Before you can take on the full 'MCPD' examination, you should finish 2 'MCTS' programs first of all. If programming is new to you, it's wise to begin with a programming introduction course first - even though MS entitle their 1st unit a 'foundation unit'. We would equally advise taking a support qualification leading up to all this, so as to acquire a decent knowledge of software environments & support. This will allow you to enter into the industry doing support work whilst you remain on your training. An entire career-track will need approximately six to seven hundred hours of study time, so if you are training part-time you should be able to complete in approximately 12 to 18 months.

Understanding where it is you want to arrive at is essential before embarking on this (or any other) professional certification course, so that you can prepare the correct path. Taking on a training program in some sort of ad hoc manner might easily bring about you getting to a totally different place to that which you thought you had been working towards. Programming & software qualifications are not necessarily straightforward, and if you do not choose them very carefully it may seem like you are stepping through a minefield! Our IT advisors can help simplify everything for you. A 45 minute chat could save you 000's & years of wasted training!

Many elements make it largely recognised that 'C' is the most useful 'language' for the commercial programming trainee to start off with. The 'language' is very disciplined, and as such a number of others have emerged from it. Once you have mastered the way to write programs in C, you will find the change to others is much more spontaneous. Its also the main systems language, and one of MS's chief supported languages both in Visual Studio (the Microsoft development environment,) & it's certification structure. Such a big edification and broad certification collection from MS simply enhance the validity of learning 'C' at the beginning of any programming training-track. In fact, C started life back in the 1960's (it wasn't actually named 'C' until the seventies however.) In the decade of the 80's, the changeover took place to 'object-oriented' C++ . Object oriented means this program can be a number of objects speaking to one another - not merely just one, 'linear' string of activities. MS launched their '.Net' enabled version of 'C' when we welcomed in the new millennium. It grew to become referred to as 'C#', and is the adaptation used around the world today. MS built a software framework which allows Windows programmers access to a wealth of pre written libraries. It's this that the word .NET identifies, and it saves programmers a lot of time as many of the basic tasks are already completed for them.
